みなさん、こんにちは。

「UNDERTALE MUSEUM」、楽しみにしてもらえているとうれしいです。今回の企画がどういういきさつで実現したか、少し説明させてください……

FUNDOMという日本の会社があって、マンガとかゲームとかアイドルとか、いろんなコンテンツの展示イベントを専門に手がけているんですが、そのFUNDOMさんから、「『UNDERTALE』の10周年記念にイベントをやりませんか」というお誘いをもらったんです。

今回のイベントは「MUSEUM」という名前ですが、『UNDERTALE』の歴史や開発にまつわる僕やテミーの私物なんかは、展示されません。FUNDOMさんから提案されたコンセプトはむしろ、『UNDERTALE』の各エリアをシンプルに再現して、手作りで細部をいろいろと作り込んで、ファンのみなさんに写真に収めて楽しんでもらえるようなものにしたい、ということでした。このおもなコンセプトに変更はありません。ただ……

FUNDOMさんは、原作を完全にリスペクトしたいと言ってくれました。なので、当初のご提案は作品にとても忠実で、おバカなアイデアとか、「それはないでしょ」というような案は、ひとつも含まれていませんでした。だけど僕が思うに、そういうおバカなアイデアに驚かされることこそ、『UNDERTALE』のゲーム体験だよな、という気がしたんです。そこで僕からもいくつか細かい提案をして、このイベントをもっと……『UNDERTALE』らしくする工夫をさせてもらいました。なので、僕はこのイベントの「監修」としてクレジットされていますけど、実際はFUNDOMさんからもらった提案に「最後の仕上げ」をした、と思ってもらえれば幸いです。

うまく仕上がって、みなさんに楽しんでもらえたらうれしいです！

Hi everyone.

I hope you're excited for the UNDERTALE MUSEUM. To explain a bit how this project came about… there is a Japanese company called Fundom that specializes in putting on exhibition events for different properties, like mangas, games, idols, etc. This company approached me in order to make an event for UNDERTALE’s 10th anniversary.

Although the event is called a “MUSEUM”, there aren’t any personal objects from me or Temmie involving the history or development of the game. Actually, the concept that was proposed to me by Fundom was a simplified recreation of the different areas of UNDERTALE, with various hand-made details serving as photo opportunities for fans. This is still the main concept, but…

Because Fundom wanted to respect the original work completely, their proposal was very faithful and didn't contain any stupid and bad ideas. However, I feel that the experience of UNDERTALE is about being surprised by stupid ideas, so I offered to come up with a few details to make the event more… UNDERTALE. So, although I’m credited as supervisor, you can think of me more as putting the “final touches” on top of their existing proposal.
